Collage; Henri Matisse

This art is a type of collage known as Decoupage and defined as craft.  It is the made by placing a picture onto an object for decoration. Decoupage usually involve adding multiple copies of the same image, cut and layered to add apparent depth. The picture is often coated with varnish or some other sealant for protection One of the more famous artists known for his work with decoupage is Henri Matisse. He is  well know for his piece which is entitled Blue Nude II , 1952.
Late in his career, Matisse began to work increasingly with cut paper. He used sheets of paper washed over with gouache colors and then cut out his shapes and stuck them together, as shown below in a collage entitled “The Snail” from 1953.

Henri was a French artist, known for his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printer and sculptor. He was born in Fance, the oldest son of a prosperous grain merchant.
